How a fully-remote case works, step by step

- 2E-signed retainer and the firm's encrypted client portal are stood up as soon as the engagement is signed.
- 3Document upload, ID verification, and case-fact interviews happen over secure video.
- 4Filings (USCIS, DOS, NVC, federal court) are prepared by the firm and the final draft is reviewed with you over video before submission.
- 5Status changes, RFEs, interviews, and federal-court orders flow back through the portal — you see the same record the attorney sees.
Tech requirements
- A modern phone, tablet, or computer with a camera.
- A working email address and a phone number we can text.
- An internet connection that supports a 30-minute video call.
- If video is not possible, the firm will work with you by phone and document upload.
Time zone & how we work
Live attorney availability is Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm Pacific. Portal messages route to the case team that knows your file. Time-sensitive matters (ICE detention, imminent removal, federal-court deadlines) are flagged for priority handling regardless of time zone.
Where Mendoza Immigration appears
- U.S. District Courts (mandamus, § 2241 habeas, APA review) — nationwide.
- Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) — nationwide briefing and appeals.
- USCIS service centers and field offices — petitions and adjudication follow-up nationwide.
- U.S. Department of State / National Visa Center — consular case follow-up worldwide.
- EOIR Sacramento and EOIR Phoenix — in-court representation for cases in those venues.
- Federal district-court complaints are filed in the venue that fits the case, and circuit-court petitions for review are filed in the circuit covering the petitioner's residence — the firm's most common venues are the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
- For cases that fall outside the firm's regularly admitted federal venues, the firm appears ad hoc via pro hac vice admission in the relevant U.S. district court or court of appeals (associating with local counsel where the local rules require it), so a client's geography does not limit federal-court representation.

Digital office FAQs
Do you handle cases in my state?
USCIS petitions, BIA appeals, and federal-court mandamus are nationwide — your home state does not change our ability to file. For removal proceedings in immigration court, our representation is limited to clients within reasonable reach of an EOIR court where the firm appears; ask us during intake.
Do I need to fly to California?
No. Intake, document exchange, retainer signing, video consults, and ongoing case work are all handled remotely. We meet in person only when you ask to or when a hearing requires it.
How does a federal-court appearance work if I live in Florida?
Federal complaints (mandamus, habeas, APA review) are filed in the venue that fits your case — typically the federal district where USCIS or DOS sat on the application. Most appearances are by phone or video and do not require you to travel.
Is the consultation still in Spanish?
Yes. Every Digital Office consultation is offered in English or Spanish at your preference, with no third-party interpreter and no surcharge.
What does 'encrypted client portal' actually mean?
A password-protected client area where you upload documents, see case milestones, e-sign forms, and message the attorney. Communications are encrypted in transit and at rest.
Are the attorneys the same ones in California and Arizona?
Yes. The Digital Office is a delivery model, not a separate firm — your case is handled by the same Mendoza Immigration attorneys who appear in our brick-and-mortar offices.
